I had not before seen such a large smithsonite of this color from Touissit, let alone with Rosasite included within. Usually they are grey in colors, at least from modern finds. In the early 1980s though, a group of smithsonite was found in blues and greens, at this locality. I am told this is an old specimen, indeed. It is the only one of its like, certainly, that I know of - the others I have seen are more green in hue. The color is an intense blue, reminiscent of the best of Kelly Mine (USA) or Choix in Mexico, but the rosasite is what makes it even more special. The rosasite sticks out the top, and is probably also what is coloring the smithsonite by its inclusion. Gorgeous, and unusual! Joe Budd photos. 383 grams.
