Apatite
Medina, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil

This specimen really throws you for a loop when you look at it. I saw my first Medina apatite about 10 years ago and have bought every one I can get ahold of since, because they are so phenomenal for the species and show extremely well in a case. While not the largest apatite crystals around, these citrine-colored crystals are totally transparent with exceptional glassy luster almost unheard of for the species. But they are not small either...the longest crystal is over an inch and for this particular find (in the 1980s) this is of respectable size. On second thought, these apatite crystals ARE the gemmiest I have ever seen, from anywhere - like glass! This piece is completely crystallized all around save for 3 small contacts: 2 on the lower portion, one on front and one on back; and a small, tiny bit of matrix contact that has left a little scar on the left side of the upper crystal (as shown in the photos - you don't even see it from the display face). Otherwise, complete all around!. 4.5 x 3.2 x 2.6 cm
