This piece is remarkably aesthetic and pristine, as well as HUGE at 16 x 12 x 6.5 cm. It is shaped like a saddle, somewhat humped in the middle, and difficult to show off to such depth in the photos although we have tried. Thus, if you view if from one end of the valley, it foreshortens in viewing but gives amazing depth and dimensionality to the piece as shown. If you view it horizontally, it is good too, of course, and presents a much larger surface area. The color on this one is really fascinating and a bit unusual: it has the richest green color at the base of the larger crystals, and then 2 further layers of pyromorphite growth in which the color grades to a more pastel green hue at tips. Some of the tips appear to have a slight green frosting on them, which really accentuates their form and contrast nicely. The effect is oriented such that it is more apparent on the long horizontal, then when displayed vertically. It is amazing to me, the size of it and this perfection as well. And, I like the geometry of the piece. The color is not typical, as it is really 3 colors in gradient, but I find it attractive and unusual amidst a crowd for this reason. Pyros from anywhere in this size start to get expensive, as you know. But I think this is pretty reasonable at this price, to cash out a trade on it. This is a large cabinet specimen in totally pristine condition that I exchanged out of Steve Smale in an infamous trade, where I traded the Ikons bournonite for duplicates or too-large specimens from his China suite (which was considered by many to be the best assembled in the 1990s during China's initial outflow). Over the early years of Chinese mineral output, Steve was teaching in Hong Kong and intercepted a good bit of material, cherrypicking and stashing many duplicates. This was, in the end, too big to fit with most of the specimens he ended up keeping, but is no slouch in quality and was kept by him for a decade.
