It is not often that amphiboles come analyzed, however this beautiful crystal of magnesiohastingsite has been identified by renown amphibole expert Prof. Frank Hawthorne for his friend Rob Woodside in Vancouver, and later sold to collector greg Peterson. The lustrous, 6cm black crystal comes from Niaslo in the Basha Valley of Pakistan, which is known for its beautiful apatite, gem-grade green titanite and gem orthoclase. This specimen is large for the species, and is made more striking by the striations which run along the crystal face.
