Rutile in Quartz, on Hematite
Novo Horizonte, Bahia, Brazil
Thumbnail, 2.4 x 1.0 x 0.8 cm
Ex. Bill & Anne Cook

Brazil has produced literally tons of rutilated Quartz specimens, but how many good thumbnails have you seen? You could not make one more aesthetic as a thumbnail, if you tried. This cute thumbnail has a nice, single, 1 cm, metallic black Hematite crystal at the base like a natural pedestal; with a lustrous and sharp, 1.9 cm rutilated Quartz crystal jutting right up off of it! The sharp, totally transparent, perfectly formed Quartz crystal hosts numerous, slender, golden Rutile needles. This is super aesthetic combination piece from the classic Brazilian locality! We have seen and had numerous single crystals. But this is a MATRIX RQ thumbnail, where the crystal is perched on a fine hematite crystal - a total miracle! For the unlikely combination, this raises the level of play on this specimen to that of a competitive case, as there is simply nothing like it. Exquisite, perhaps one of our favorites out of the whole collection containing 1000 thumbnails.
