The red beryl from Utah, with color due to minute and unusual traces of manganese within the beryl structure, is one of the rarest gems on Earth. Crystals of this quality were mined in the1980s and 1990s, and not since. This is a phenomenal, competition-level single crystal of the finest color saturation, finest luster, and a very high degree of translucency. It is incredibly impactful on display in a case and unusual in not having a repair for this size. It was selected by Shields Flynn from the stash brough to Tucson by Rex Harris long ago, when they were contemporary. Such crystals were never common on the market, as they were often cut for cabbing rough inside. The crystal is actually doubly terminated. One end is perfect (the narrower tip), while the other has some very minor chipping at base that we have chosen not to restore as it is at the bottom anyhow and must be mounted for display there, leaving this natural - and not repaired or restored.
