Sparkling and gemmy rhodochrosite is quite rare from any Mexico locale, and this piece is a really rich example, with gem clear, glassy crystals to 1 cm. This is about the highest clarity and quality Mexico produced. It is a large, vuggy rock matrix with multiple safe pockets preserving most (not all) of the crystals in excellent condition. Although a very few specimens exist with larger crystals and deep color, they are not as glassy. Al Kidwell purchased this from the legendary dealers Dalton and Concise Prince in 1978. Consie was Mexican and had some of the best stuff from this region, and brought it up to Houston where Al lived!
