Aesthetically perched on a marble matrix, are two glassy and gemmy crystals of mesmerizing purpley-red spinel, to 1 cm across. This specimen is from the world famous Mogok Valley of Myanmar(Burma). The extended, thin nature of the crystals is highly unusual because this is a flattened octahedron, not a flat macle twin, as you first think at a glance. The thin-ness of the crystal gives it remarkably translucency/transparency when on exhibit.
