A gorgeous bright magenta Cobalt-bearing Calcite from copper-cobalt deposits of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, this literally stands out to the eye from across the room. The sparkle and the remarkable intensity of color of the Calcite is caused by substitution of a minor amount of cobalt in the structure makes this a vibrant addition to any display. The brilliant magenta color of the 1.5 to 2.8 cm, translucent, glistening botryoids makes for a stunning small cabinet piece. This is simply the most intense, saturated, crazy color you will ever see in a mineral specimen. I bought it for my own suite of calcites a long time ago, when i was a calcite collector myself, and paid a lot even at the time it came out. I have held it for a decade and more. It is simply stunning like few are - the photo and video you may assume to may convey how colorful or sparkly it is, but it is better in person. Ex. Rob Lavinsky collection.
