The Felix Mine has arguably produced some of the best Fluorite specimens in the State of California and they are unusual even on a worldwide basis. The entirety of these green Fluorites were collected by the Gochenour brothers in the early 1990s from a small mine in the developed urban areas of Los Angeles. They are seldom seen on the market even within California, let alone for sale outside, 20-30 years later! The vein was small, and hard to work. It was tucked into a now-inaccessible canyon in a suburban development within the greater LA area, and can be considered a mineral from a very urban locale. This fine piece is composed of one large (5.5 cm) and two subordinate crystals, and although it looks octahedral, it is largely a stacking of progressively smaller cubic crystals with few octahedral modifications. It has a lovely deep sea-green color and is very gemmy with good luster. There is a small amount of gray matrix on the bottom. Few Fluorites of this size and this good of condition were ever found. Ex Robert Reynolds collection.
