Stacked helter-skelter, these brassy cubic pyrites from Spain perfectly exhibit the characteristics that make these so fascinating to novice and experienced collectors, alike! The pyrite crystals are metallic and scintillating, rising over 7cm off the matrix, with 4 main crystals (and one itty bitty one near the top!) Note that with matrix specimens of this material, almost uniformly the matrix is either stabilized, or the crystal repaired back into its natural place of origin (likely, both), and this tower has a repair where crystals broke during mining (or in situ.) From the personal collection of one of the workers and preparators at the mine, who had set back a dozen fine specimens he worked on over the years and sold us the little collection recently.
