An 8 cm hexagonal molybdenite crystal, huge for the species, is aesthetically perched on matrix surrounded by smaller molybdenite and massive quartz. Molybdenite is a significant component for many different steels, though fine specimens like this are far more valuable than the value of the ore. Large Molybdenite specimens from this working industrial mine seldom come to market because they are a valuable ore there, and most of them go in the crusher for refining. Specimens of this size and caliber shocked the world when they first came to light in the early 2000s, and remain rare and often misattributed to other locations in China.
