Elbaite Tourmaline on Quartz
Golconda Mine, Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Small Cabinet, 7.6 x 4.0 x 2.3 cm

This is a rather elegant style of combination specimen featuring a sword-in-the-stone of gem tourmaline embedded in a shard of translucent, lustrous quartz. The tourmaline stands 7.5 cm tall, and runs through the quartz. The quartz is crystallized, although irregular and with some contacts, but is mostly complete. There is one very clean, thin lock-fit repair on the tourmaline, not unexpected for something with such freestanding aesthetics. The arrangement, for balance of size and to orient the tourmaline, really makes this a special and beautiful specimen.
