Diaspore (twinned)
Selcuk Dist., Izmir Prov., Turkey
Thumbnail, 2.5 x 1.9 x 0.6 cm
Ex. Gawan Fiore
SOLD

This particularly fine twin is from the collection of Gawan Fiore, a noted collector of twinned minerals. It consists of the classic, textbook, V-shaped twin with two gemmy, prismatic twin components, one at 2.9 cm in length and doubly terminated and the other at 2.2 cm in length with two crystals in parallel growth! The bladed, prismatic gem crystals exhibit a delicate purple color with glassy prism faces. Once an old classic so rare that almost nobody owned one, there was a lapse of production of Diaspore from this locality for decades and then recent re-mining efforts for specimens here have produced a probably brief, but productive, burst of this old gem material again. I would say to get them now while we can, as who knows how long this era of mining can last - and much of it is destroyed for gem rough for the growing market in "czarite" or "zultanite" as this is marketed to the public now as a new gemstone for mass marketing. Mining for the gem changes how they go about it, and makes specimen production all the more difficult when it is not a primary goal. The mass of this gorgeous thumbnail is 2.08 grams. Ex. Gawan Fiore collection.
