Lepidolite on Elbaite
Pederneira Mine, Sao Jose da Safira, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Small Cabinet, 6.9 x 5.9 x 4.5 cm
Ex. Keith Proctor
SOLD
Vibrant pink Lepidolite crystals are set on green Elbaite Tourmaline from the famous Pederneira Mine in Brazil, on this fancy display quality specimen from a unique pocket found in the early 2000s and now legendary (and unequaled since). Dozens of hot pink CRYSTALS of Lepidolite from less than 1 up to 2.3 cm are clustered in on translucent green Tourmaline crystals on this fine small cabinet piece, formerly in the Keith Proctor collection. As we all know, Keith was a true "rascal" to be polite about it, but he had good taste in minerals and this was a pocket people fought over acquiring pieces from. It is rare for Lepidolite to form in distinct, translucent, prismatic crystals like this as it usually forms in masses or occasionally in books of opaque lavender crystals. The columnar crystals have a hexagonal outline with flat, pinacoid terminations and have good separation so that each crystal is distinct in the clusters. This was from a rare find at the Pederneira pegmatite a few decades ago and basically none are on the market. The few with gemmy tourmalines attached have all sold and resold in the six figures now. Exceptional for the species, and for Brazil, this is one of those things that simply stands out among a crowd because you just never see any! Ex Keith Proctor and Richard Rossi collections (from whom we acquired it).
