Demantoid from Madagascar has set the new modern standard for the species, and this gemmy thumbnail is a prime example. The majority of fine Demantoid specimens were mined in projects run by Dr. Federico Pezzotta over the last decade or so. He consults for the government, employs local mining teams, and has handled many of the great Madagascar specimens of the modern era. This cluster, obtained directly from his work there, is a choice sculptural group of six, distinct and well-formed, bright medium-green, gem crystals display well on a small patch of light colored matrix on the back. The Garnets are very glassy and gemmy with uniform color and display faint geometric growth patterns on their faces. A stunning thumbnail from this famous find!
