Topaz var. Imperial
Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Miniature, 3.9 x 1.7 x 0.6 cm
Ex. Bruno and Rolando Gioia

A totally gem crystal of "Imperial" Topaz from Ouro Preto, the classic and historic locality for these prized and distinctly coloured Topaz crystals. This is so gemmy, that the camera has trouble focusing, so please see the video for the best color and luster representation, although the sharpness comes out clearly in the photos. You just look right through it! This textbook Topaz crystal is complete and terminated sharply, perfect except only a few tiny dings. These extraordinary crystals from Ouro Preto originate from highly weathered (kaolinized) country rock and most crystal like this are loose and matrix pieces are exceedingly rare. This area has been in production for over 250 years! This gem crystal has a mass of 7.3 grams. This gem crystal speaks for itself: super sharp edges and crystal faces, sublime light sherry color, vitreous luster, TOTALLY GEM and nicely terminated. For the size, I have seen so many inferior, cloudy, murky examples but this is a literal gem.
