What a great historic Columbite-(Fe) crystal from the famed Strickland Quarry in Connecticut! It is huge and impactful, and dates back to the namesake quarry owner. The crystal is a robust, black-gray, sub-metallic, prismatic crystal with some crystal faces and portions of the crystal probably intergrown with Muscovite, remnants of which is are still present on the piece. Rarely do we ever see specimens from this locality available and ones like this surface from old collections or trades. One label indicates that it is "old material" so we can assume it was probably from mining in the early- to mid-1900s. It was undoubtedly a product of the recovery of feldspar, mica and beryl during pegmatite mining operations at that time. Ex. Anthony Albini collection with label with reference to it being in the Richard Schooner and F. E. Strickland collections.
