A vibrant and classic style of gem (literally!) green elbaite tourmaline crystal from the Pederneira mine. The stunning deep color and transparency are very apparent in the photos, enhanced by the faint vertical striations along the prism faces that display great luster. The faces of the sharply pyramidal termination have a prominent glassy luster. The elbaite crystal is completely gem throughout save a few veiled inclusions near the bottom, and it has a deep evergreen color with a blue tint apparent in the central part of the crystal. The tourmaline is also a scepter as evident from its partial rubellite stem at the base. This is a superb, completely transparent crystal that has no edge chatter, only an area in what would be the back of the crystal that has an impression of another tourmaline crystal that must have grown with it in the pocket. The crystal has one clean repair, lock-fit and very hard to spot. Mass is 26.9 grams. This dates to the classic mining period here in the mid-2000s by Fine Minerals Intl., who operate this mine to this day. It is a style once common, briefly, and now hard to come by.
