Fluorite and Calcite

Ex. Dr. Stephen Smale

The Shangbao Mine is one of the most notable Fluorite specimen producing mines in China - or the world, for that matter. This piece from the 1990s has two, large, elegant Fluorite crystals, one that is 3.5cm across and the other 3.0cm in maximum dimension. Both crystals have pale blue and purple-blue zones with dominant cube faces that are distinctly purple and then a multitude of very small, stepped-faces that combine both dodecahedral and cube forms. These Fluorites are then nested with several scalenohedral Calcite crystals to 3.7cm that are white with smoky tips! Super attractive Shangbao combination specimen - the photos speak for themselves! Ex. Steve Smale collection with label. He acquired this in the 1990s, and it is vividly different than more modern material. A competition-worthy miniature.
