The Jonas Pocket of 1978 will stand for all time as one of the most famous tourmaline discoveries, and perhaps the single most important single pocket discovery of gem crystals of all mineral collecting. It is simply legendary, and for obvious reasons - can you imagine a walk-in sized pocket with gemmy rubellite crystals to 1.5 meters surrounding you? Today, of course, over 40 years later, these crystals are few and far between on the resale market. Those who own them, who were around at the time, tend to keep them. There is simply nothing comparable. This is an excellent single crystal for the size range, translucent to transparent throughout, and with no repairs or restorations. It is nearly pristine with just a few tiny dings. It stands flat on a sawed bottom (where a gem nodule likely was removed at the mine), and so it does set up proudly upright on its own. Unobtainable in this quality, today. 46 grams
