Elbaite Tourmaline var. Rubellite with Albite
Jonas Mine, Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Miniature, 4.0 x 3.5 x 3.2 cm
SOLD

From one of the great Tourmaline finds of the 20th Century, from the Jonas Mine in Brazil in 1978, comes this robust, translucent, deep cranberry Elbaite Tourmaline crystal. it is impressive for a miniature and measures 3.5cm in length, 4 cm across at the top and has some minor contrasting snow white Albite in association on one side. The crystal itself is gemmy to translucent with much of the top few millimeters of the pinacoid termination being almost totally gem as is most of the base of the crystal; the middle portion exhibits some horizontal zoning, especially toward the termination (and although there is some internal fracturing in this area it actually serves to enhance the play of light inside the crystal). It is lightly striated with glassy luster on most of the prism faces and the pinacoid and one prism face has a satin luster. Contacted on the bottom and very back. A wonderful stout Jonas Tourmaline miniature, much thicker and more unusual than what might more often turn up on the market. These are treasures, seldom sene for sale today and immediately recognizable compared to any other tourmaline pocket we know of.
