Azurite with Malachite
Liufengshan Mine, Guichi District, Chizhou, Anhui, China
Miniature, 4.8 x 4.4 x 3.7 cm
SOLD

Notable for its gorgeous spreads of sparkling small crystals more than for well-developed, high-quality Azurite crystals, the Guichi District in Anhui produced this very fine miniature. It is one of the single most exceptional azurite crystals we have seen from China, and I have been there probably 60 times in the last 12 years. The vast majority of these Chinese Azurites are druses, with relatively few having large crystals. The central crystal here is a full 2.8 cm tall, textbook shape, and all the Azurites have superb luster and great color. Even under regular light you can see intense blue flashes, and combined with the excellent luster, you can understand why these compare so favorably to the great Azurites from Milpillas. Gorgeous aesthetics and outstanding form make gorgeous and uncommon specimens such as this highly prized among both dealers and collectors. For a miniature azurite from China, I cannot imagine a better one. This was from a small single pocket in late 2018.
