Elbaite Tourmaline (Jonas 1978 Pocket!)
Jonas Mine, Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Small Cabinet, 8.2 x 2.7 x 1.0 cm
SOLD

This Jonas Mine Elbaite Tourmaline piece is all about cranberry color! The main crystal is 5.8cm in length and is saturated, translucent cranberry through much of the body with a deep magenta, gem termination and rises abruptly from a matrix cluster of six variably terminated cranberry Elbaite crystal along with some minor, white contrasting Albite, small book of Lepidolite and one tiny black and super lustrous Cassiterite crystal, whew! The vertical Elbaite in the same orientation as the large one is 3.2cm long and doubly terminated. No repairs to this beauty! Jonas set the standard, and has not been equaled since. A CLUSTER like this, without repair, is almost unheard of. Extremely colorful and elegant, it is a rarity. In 1978, the Jonas Mine produced what is probably the most famous single pocket of Elbaite Tourmaline crystals of all time and this crystal is a product of that discovery.
