Rhodochrosite
N'Chwaning Mine, near Kuruman, Cape Province, South Africa
Miniature, 4.0 x 2.8 x 1.1 cm
SOLD
This specimen is comprised of intergrown, scalenohedral, rosettes of lustrous, gemmy, reddish-orange, rhodochrosite, to 2 cm across, from the same pocket as the above (trimmed from the same piece, I suspect!). This is one of the more unusual habits for N'Chwaning rhodos. It would have come out in the early 1980s. Such specimens are few and far between, today, in any habit, and this is a really pretty piece with radiant color, so a beautiful miniature besides a classic, now. Note it has been saw-cut on the back, and this thin-ness helped to remove excess massive material and increase the translucency as it sits in a case. No damage at all on the display face!
