Elbaite Tourmaline with Lepidolite (1978 pocket)
Jonas Mine, Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Small Cabinet, 7.0 x 2.1 x 1.8 cm

In 1978, the Jonas Mine produced what is probably the most famous single pocket of Elbaite Tourmaline crystals of all time and this crystal is a product of that discovery. It is a modest, relatively thick, intense cranberry colored, prismatic crystal accentuated by a lovely, lavender Lepidolite rosette. The Elbaite crystal stands nearly 3 inches tall, is very lustrous, lightly striated and weighs in at 20 grams. Super color, classic for this pocket, and very gemmy! It is essentially pristine with a good termination (there is only one little natural divot, not damage, on a side edge). The color saturation of this crystal makes it stand out dramatically and the Lepidolite rosette near the termination, along with some tiny cranberry elbaite crystals, result in great aesthetics! Few such crystals are available on the market today, from the 1978 pocket here.
