Azurite (floater)
Shilu Mine, Yangchun Co., Yangjiang, Guangdong, China
Small Cabinet, 8.7 x 5.6 x 4.5 cm

This doublet represents a classic example of the Azurite "rosettes" from the Shilu Mine. Lustrous, with a rich, royal-blue color, these Azurite crystals have a dusting of bright green Malachite that adds a nice, subtle, color contrast to this floater. The piece reminds me of the classic specimens from Bisbee or Chessy. Formerly in the collections of Dr. Marcus Johnston and Helen & Raul Madrid, the quality and aesthetics of this small cab are exemplary. It is characteristic of the older material from here, which came out in the 1980s and 1990s.
