Fluorite on Calcite (both fluorescent)
Huanggang Fe-Sn deposit, Hexigten Banner, Inner Mongolia, China
Small Cabinet, 6.7 x 5.4 x 4.7 cm
Ex. Dr. Stephen Smale
SOLD

Perched exquisitely on Calcite matrix, this colorless, 3 cm (on edge) Fluorite is a textbook octahedron, well-formed and razor sharp. It is also glassy, gemmy, and water clear, all of which makes this Fluorite compare favorably to the finest colorless Fluorites from places like Dal'negorsk, Russia and Naica, Mexico. Even compared to recent finds from Huanngang, this is superior for its quality and aesthetics. As expected, the Calcite fluoresces a vivid orange-pink and the Fluorite a light purplish-blue. There is contact on the back corner of the crystal, only, but it has no effect on the exemplary aesthetics that nearly elevate this to a world-class small cab. An old piece from the early exports from this locality around 2008-2012, ex Smale Collection
