Fluorite with Quartz
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang Co., Hunan Province, China
Cabinet, 12.5 x 6.0 x 3.3 cm

This is a fabulous, translucent/transparent linear array of superb, razor-sharp, cubic, zoned, gem crystals growing one adjacent to the other. There are at least a dozen, stunning, 1 to 2.5 cm pale blue crystals with faint purple cores and discontinuous purple zones. The lustrous fluorites are accompanied by a single fractured and re-healed quartz crystal with associated silvery, fine-grained muscovite on one end and some minor muscovite on the bottom where it was removed from the pocket. The fluorite crystals are very lustrous and transparent, exhibiting some faint growth hillocks on many of the cube faces. There are extremely thin, discontinuous patches of very finely divided (what are calling) white quartz frocking the fluorite crystals on one side of the piece locally for accent. The quality, color and clarity of this piece is amazing with very sharp and distinct cube edges and corners. The piece is pristine save only one indistinct contact on the corner of the largest cube. Much more colorful in person although the photos convey the geometry and zoning very well. A custom engraved acrylic base is included. The piece displays exceptionally well. Production at this mine is way down, and not as many come out as in the past. Purchased in China in 2017.
