Beryl var. Aquamarine with Microcline
Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Sichuan Province, China
Cabinet, 10.2 x 7.2 x 5.1 cm
SOLD
An extraordinary tabular aquamarine perched adroitly on a contrasty matrix of white microcline and silvery muscovite. The aqua is glassy, transparent to translucent displaying numerous small growth hillocks on many faces that glisten in any ambient lighting. The aquamarine crystal measures 5.9 cm across and exhibits a beautiful light blue color! The piece is well composed with the aquamarine situated dramatically on matrix with adjacent snow-white microcline crystals to 2.4 cm associated with clusters of small (2mm) muscovite crystals. As in most aquamarine crystals from this local, the tabular habit is more reminiscent of morganite. The crystal has a small contact at the bottom near the matrix which is barely noticeable and doesn't detract from the "displayability" of the piece at all. A well balanced piece that sits well in a custom engraved acrylic base.
