A stunning, competition-level USA TOURMALINE from one of the oldest and most classic of places! Excellent, single Dravite crystal from the classic New York locality centered in Pierrepont, New York. The complex, highly lustrous, black crystal rests on composite matrix that includes numerous small Dravite crystals, each lustrous and attractive in their own right. The main crystal is an impressive 4.5 cm across and is in very good condition. This attractive, old-time Dravite Tourmaline dates back to the 1800's, where it was in the well-known collection of John Caswell (1846-1909), who had acquired it from Chester Nims. Great history and good aesthetics really heighten the desirability of this piece. Caswell's interesting bio: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=464
