A gemmy and lustrous, 1.3 cm, single yellow Topaz crystal with a complex termination from the Schneckenstein cliff of Saxony, Germany. The luster on the prism faces is very good, and the yellow gemminess is a richer color than normal. This 3.63 gram Topaz is very likely circa 1800s. Classic old material, seldom seen in gem crystals. This is an important old locality, with material from this famous erratic deposit goes back nearly 300 years in the literature. These were treasured by mineral collectors when all collectors in Europe were nobility or their associates, and considered one of the hallmarks of great collection.
