Large, flattened rhombs of Rhodochrosite highlight this small cab from the Sunnyside Mines group (the American Tunnel, as commonly known) in Colorado. The largest of these rhombs is 2.8 cm across, and they have a soft pink color and good luster and finely-textured surface. The distribution and balance of the rhombs across this small cab is such that you really hardly notice that the large crystal in the middle is actually only a partial. Such aesthetic balance is hard to find, and it is quite pleasing when you do. Minor Quartz and Fluorite add interest. A very interesting Sunnyside Rhodo with unusual 3-dimensional impact! Ex Helen Hunt collection, and probably from the 1960s.
