Very fine cluster of metallic-gray Galena crystals from the famous Freiberg District. The distorted cuboctahedrons reach up to 2.3 cm, but what really makes this for me is the glistening gold with blue iridescence on many of the Galenas. Classic material from this renowned locale, in modern quality display form! This is originally out of the John Pearse and Harvard Museum collections. John B. Pearse (1842-1914) has an entry in the Mineralogical Record archives here: http://minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1144. From this website link we found information indicating this was likely part of a group of specimens purchased on a trip to Germany in 1865: "While in Freiberg in 1865 he purchased a 5000-specimen collection of minerals, rocks and fossils from the Academy's mineral dealership, the Mineralien-Niederlage zu Freiberg."
