Hessite
Botesti, Zlatna, Alba Co., Romania
Miniature, 3.9 x 2.6 x 2.4 cm
Ex. Kay Robertson
SOLD

This rich miniature, with a matrix association of Quartz, is an excellent reference specimen for this very rare silver telluride species. The Hessites range up to 2-3 mm, and several are very well formed with entirely different crystal shapes. The dark grey crystals have a metallic luster with a mostly matte finish. Hessite specimens reach their worldwide zenith from the Botes area, and in reality any Hessite from the famous old 1800's-era locale is desirable. These are rare and very hard to find, and the richness of the piece elevates its quality. Purchased in 1962 from the German dealer Krantz.
