Elbaite Tourmaline
Coronel Murta, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Cabinet, 14.3 x 4.6 x 3.9 cm

This is one of the few tourmaline pockets in Brazil that simply stand apart form the rest and are instantly recognizable to longtime collectors the world over; a shocking single pocket produced only some few dozen of these lustrous, gem crystals with unique color banding and a sharp glassy termination - in combination, a totally unique style. Alternating, glassy and gemmy color zones of rose and yellow culminate in a green termination in this fine crystal. It is complete on the front display face, though contacted on the whole backside (meaning that it grew up against something else, another tourmaline probably, and was constrained in its growth). So, it looks flat on back. This has the benefit, in this case, of making it look MORE gemmy and translucent than if it were fat and rounded in back, since light comes through more easily! Comes with a custom lucite dispay base. 329 grams mass... fairly substantial! Remarkably for the size, it has no repairs.
