Dal'negorsk Ilvaites are arguably the world's finest, and this is a choice combination piece. It features a sharp, superbly lustrous 2.5 cm Ilvaite, accompanied by many smaller Ilvaites. This sharply terminated, jet-black Ilvaite crystal is the striking focal point, but certainly not the only one. The piece is crowned by a radial cluster of fluorescent Calcite scalenohedra, and all are intergrown with Quartz crystals. The matrix is lustrous, olive-green, acicular Hedenbergite. Specimens of this classic combination, with high quality, came out in the early 1990s during the first wave of fine Dal'negorsk material. Very few specimens of this quality have been found since. This is certainly one of the most aesthetic of these combinations I have seen from here. The balance and overall sculptural combination are outstanding.
