Baryte and Fluorite on Quartz
Pohla Mine, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany
Small Cabinet, 8.2 x 7.3 x 4.0 cm
Ex. Dr. Ed David; Helmut Bruckner; Herb Obodda
SOLD

Pohla is known for both its fine golden Barytes and Silvers. This superb, small cabinet piece features a pair of parallel-growth Barytes just over 5 cm long, both having excellent luster and incredibly gemmy, deep-amber terminations. The Quartz matrix just below is decorated with gemmy, 3 mm, lemon-yellow Fluorites that add the perfect touch to this aesthetic, and really quite dramatic, piece. First collected in 1987, this Baryte came out of the noted collections of German dealer Helmut Bruckner (private collection) and Dr. Ed David (who obtained it in the 1990s), prior to being owned by dealer Herb Obodda and kept in his own private collection of European classics. I trimmed it from a cabinet piece, but it still retains the Ed David numbering painted on the bottom. A dramatic example of unusual habit.
