Galena and Fluorite (rare combination)
Small Cabinet, 7.1 x 6.8 x 6.1 cm
Sub-Rosiclare Level, Denton Mine, Harris Creek District, Illinois, USA
Ex. Ross Lillie
Superb combination piece from the Denton Mine. Such combos are actually quite rare in the district in any kind of balanced, aesthetic specimen, making this display piece very special in the collection. The large, 5.4 cm Galena has excellent metallic luster and a slightly stepped surface. This texture adds greatly to its eye appeal. Sitting on top is a deep purple, 4.2 cm Fluorite with very good luster. The Fluorite is offset to the Galena, giving the specimen a very natural, but at the same time architectural, look. Of course the piece is contacted in the back, but it doesn't affect the excellent aesthetics. Mined in 1991. RCL1543
