Uvarovite (Type Locality)
Small Cabinet, 6.7 x 4.7 x 0.9 cm
Saranovskii Mine, Permskaya Oblast, Middle Urals, Urals Region, Russia (TL)
Ex. Herb Obodda

The great Chrome mine at Sarany (the Type Locality) has produced some of the most colorful and impressive "Alpine-type" Russian mineral specimens. This small cab features plenty of dodecahedral Uvarovite crystals with high luster, some etching, and intense emerald-green color. The largest of the Uvarovites reach about 5 mm across. These specimens have become increasingly difficult to obtain in recent years. There is some assumption that the purplish-gray micro-coating below the Uvarovites may possibly be Kammererite.
