Cobaltoan Dolomite on Calcite
Miniature, 4.3 x 3.3 x 3.0 cm
Kakanda deposit, Katanga Copper Crescent, Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo
Ex. Dr. Art Soregaroli
The SHOCKING PINK Cobaltoan Dolomites that came out of Katanga 30 years ago (mid 1980s) were a gigantic hit among collectors, and justifiably so: there are not many minerals with color quite as rich as this. Here, the underlying Calcite is almost completely coated with well-developed, deep raspberry-pink Dolomite crystals! The luster is very good, and the Cobaltoan Dolomites reach up to 1.5 cm in size. The aesthetics, and quality, of these Cobaltoan Dolomites are quite good.
