Splendent and metallic cubes of galena, to 3 cm across, are partially encrusted with sparkling, "ruby jack" sphalerite, crystals to 5 mm across. Mined in April 1988 from the so-called Lillie Pod. This is a gorgeous, complete all around combination specimen notable for its remarkable lack of modifications - as sharp cubic galenas are rare in this district, particularly with such incredible luster. It may anger some Elmwood-loving folks to say it, but the luster on this piece is better than on any Elmwood galena, and much better than the usual Illinois galenas as well. A superb American galena, overall! Ex. Ross Lillie collection. RCL#1868.
