Calcite on Fluorite With Baryte
Cabinet, 14.3 x 12.6 x 8.7 cm
Rosiclare Level, South-End Main Orebody, Rosiclare Level, Denton Mine, Harris Creek District, Illinois, USA

A fine large Illinois specimen featuring a classic combination of species but with unusual size. Contrasting nicely with its corroded deep purple fluorite pedestal is a well formed, doubly terminated, glassy and translucent, rich amber-colored calcite scalenohedron. It is in remarkable condition given its huge size, measuring 14 cm in length. There are also present a few, tabular, white, Baryte crystals, to 1.3 cm across. Mined in 1981. No damage and complete all around, including the exposed termination! The piece shows nicely in a case, and the calcite glows when backlit. This is fairly important for the locality. RCL 868
