Mined in January 1991, this glassy and gemmy fluorite cube measuring 3.6 cm across is perched on a small amount of white Baryte. The fluorite crystal is color zoned with a lemon yellow core and a 5 mm thick colorless rim. Just beautiful! It is so lustrous and glassy in person. There are subtle, mesmerizing inclusions of chalcopyrite and fluorite secondary growths that can only be seen at their best in person. But to put it another way, this piece glows and "sparkles" like few fluorites ever do. It is certainly one of the most interesting and pretty miniature sized examples of a yellow Illinois fluorite. Also, while most such specimens are generally partial crystals, or messily damaged on the back, this is complete on all sides and has a clean, vertical contacted back face. RCL 1421
