San Piero in Campo, Elba Island, Livorno Province, Tuscany, Italy
Miniature, 3.2 x 1.8 x 0.8 cm
Ex. Giancarlo Fioravanti
Good Petalites from Elba are uncommon, and in very high demand as are any minerals from these old mines. This is a huge, gemmy crystal for the locality. This classic "Castorite," as these were once referred to, is etched and gemmy. For those so inclined, this has a mass of 7 grams, much of it cuttable. A very good specimen of considerable importance for the locality, acquired in 1981 at the Munich show.
