Legrandite
Ojuela Mine, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
Small Cabinet, 6.4 x 4.3 x 3.2 cm

Legrandite, collected in the early 1980s in this quality from now-flooded levels of the Ojuela Mine, is one of those Holy Grails of mineral collecting. It is beautiful, and chemically and geographically super-rare. This very rich specimen features intensely lemon-yellow legrandite erupting from ocherous limonite matrix like a natural pedestal. There are several crystals of lustrous and translucent, rich golden yellow legrandite, to 2 cm in length. The overall beauty and color impact of the specimen is unusually high. So far as I know, legrandite of this quality has not been found in over 2 decades. Although there are sharper crystals, seldom have I seen a piece with so much color on one specimen.
