Ex. Ross Lillie; George Loud

This is a HUGE witherite specimen for Illinois! It is composed of two superb, highly unusual ball-like growths, composed of needle-like crystals growing in radial balls, the largest of which is a very impressive 7 cm across. The luster is good, and the altered limestone matrix indicates it is most likely from Minerva, but it is such a rare and bizarre thing that even Ross Lillie is unsure. He purchased this from the George Loud collection. This was mined sometime in the 40's or 50's. RCL2244
