Fluorite
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
Miniature, 4.4 x 3.2 x 2.6 cm

Perched exquisitely on a 4.5 cm-across calcite crystal is a textbook octahedron of fluorite measuring 2.8 cm in length. It is glassy, gemmy, and absolutely colorless. Many from these recent finds (of the last few years) are somewhat murky or dull in luster. Only 1 in 100 has the best of both. One face of the octahedron exhibits modified growth on its edges, for a bit of added detail. Under a fluorescent light the calcite crystal glow a vivid pinkish orange due to manganese inclusions. A world class fluorite on matrix!
