Malachite Ps. After Azurite
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia
Miniature, 4.5 x 3.3 x 2.0 cm
Ex. Marshall Sussman
SOLD
Clearly retaining the original azurite crystallography with parallel crystals to 4 cm in length, this pseudomorph of malachite after azurite exhibits a beautiful, velvety, chatoyant green color. It is hard to convey in photos the lively, sparkling, velvety look of a piece like this, which has "patterns" shifting across its surface in the light. The style comes ONLY from Tsumeb, and from a few pieces from Concepcion del Oro in Zacatecas, Mexico. Nowhere else. And, the chisel pointed habit here is unique to Tsumeb in any case. It is simply a world-class, competition-level miniature for this rare style! I have seen lesser crystals of this habit priced to the equivalent of $10k USD for sale at the Munich show in the stronger European market for such classics. This is complete all around, 360 degrees, and perfect. This is from the miniatures suite of the well-known Marshall Sussman Collection, and I traded it out of him around 2009 (but I lost the flat til now), just before he sold that collection entire to another collector.
