Scheelite
Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu, Sichuan Province, China
Small Cabinet, 6.1 x 5.0 x 3.5 cm

This is an extremely fine glassy and gemmy bright orange colored crystal of scheelite. It has the glassiest luster of the type seldom seen in the species. It comes from new veins being dug out from "the other side of the mountain" at this classic deposit, which most of us consider to produce best of species for scheelite. This piece came out in early 2012 and is one of the best of this new habit that I have seen. It is contacted on back but is complete on the front and display faces. When you hold these next to "old style" scheelites from the main shaft to the deposit, you can see a visceral difference in luster and sparkle... this is truly something new. They seem to only be trickling out, though. I have seen only a handful in the last 3 years of this more rare style.
